Botley Neighbourhood Plan: Your Future – Your Vote

Article by Cllr Stephen Wildin

The ‘Botley Neighbourhood Plan’ outlines the future of the local community for the next 20 years.

The Botley Neighbourhood Plan has been developed based on the opinions and concerns expressed by residents of the Botley community. It provides tools for local people to plan for the types of development that meet their community’s needs.

As well as dealing with future housing developments, the plan covers a wide range of issues, some examples of which are outlined below:

  • identification and protection of local green spaces, including sites of environmental importance including Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation.
  • working with the NHS in helping to provide increased health provision.
  • provide, maintain, and develop sport and leisure facilities.
  • traffic and road usage; electric car charging points; cycleways & footpaths; providing for local employment.

The Neighbourhood Plan is presently under review by a government-appointed examiner.

Following this examination, the plan will proceed to a local referendum within the Botley area where all residents who are eligible to vote will be asked a simple question.

“DO YOU WANT EASTLEIGH BOROUGH COUNCIL TO USE THE ‘BOTLEY NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN’ TO HELP DECIDE ‘PLANNING APPLICATIONS’ IN THE BOTLEY NEIGHBOURHOOD AREA?”

If the plan is approved by a simple majority of voters, it will be adopted by Eastleigh Borough Council for reference in future planning applications.

If approved in the Referendum, the ‘Botley Neighbourhood Plan’ will ensure that we can make informed decisions regarding all future development and facilities within your Parish.
