Blue green algae on the Hamble River

In April 2025 Botley Parish Council were informed by the Environment Agency of the presence of blue green algae on the Hamble River.

A case has been raised with the environmental health office at Eastleigh Borough Council to review the situation. (Case Reference: 01178630).

If you see algae looking like this please report it to the Environment Agency ( email: incident_communication_service@environment-agency.gov.uk or call 0800 807060) and also advise the Parish Council team (email: admin@botley-pc.gov.uk or call: 01489 787181) so we can follow this up with the EA. It would be very useful if you could include zoomed out photographs with What 3 Words references for each location.

We recommend that you & your pets avoid the area and find a nice clear piece of water for bathing.
