Accessibility Statement
This accessibility statement applies to the Botley Parish Council website at botley-pc.gov.uk.
This website is run by Botley Parish Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use it. For example, that means you should be able to:
- change colours, contrast levels and fonts using your browser or device settings
- zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
- navigate the whole website using just a keyboard
- navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
- listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
We have also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
How accessible this website is
The web pages on this website meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard. Some of our documents and some content from other providers are not fully accessible:
- some older PDF documents, mainly audit papers, registers of interests, older minutes and agendas, and early issues of Botley News, are not tagged or are scanned images, so they do not work well with screen readers
- the book “Botley – a village with a story to tell” is a designed PDF without readable text
- maps, calendars, the tide and weather panel and the Facebook feed come from other providers and are not fully accessible
- the page-turning flipbook viewer is not fully accessible, although each flipbook has a direct link to the PDF beside it

Disproportionate burden
We are not currently claiming that any accessibility problems would be a disproportionate burden to fix.
Content that is not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
Third-party content
Some content on this website comes from other providers and is not under our control:
- Google Maps on the hall, recreation ground and public toilets pages and in the directions panel at the foot of every page, and the Google Calendar booking calendars on the hall pages; the address and opening details are given as text on each page
- the tide times and weather panel from WillyWeather on the Botley Parish Quay page
- the Facebook feed on the home page; the same news is posted on our Facebook page
- the cookie settings banner, whose preferences panel comes from CookieYes
- the Pudbrook Meadow habitat survey report, which was produced by a third party
- forms and information hosted on Microsoft Forms and Microsoft Sway, which are linked from some posts
PDFs and other documents
The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they are not essential to providing our services. Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.
What we are doing to improve accessibility
In October 2026 we made a number of changes to the website so that it meets WCAG 2.2 AA, including clearer colours, visible keyboard focus, menus and accordions that work with a keyboard and screen readers, image descriptions, clearer link text and accessible forms. We are replacing the documents listed above with accessible versions where we can, and we publish new documents in an accessible format.
Preparation of this accessibility statement
This statement was prepared on 25 October 2026. It was last reviewed on 25 October 2026.
This website was last tested on 24 and 25 October 2026 against the WCAG 2.2 AA standard. The test was carried out by Smart Marketing Management Ltd.
We tested every page on the website, 168 in total, using automated testing (axe), manual checks of keyboard use, focus, colour contrast, zoom and reflow, text spacing, link text, headings, forms and error messages, and a screen reader check with NVDA. We checked every PDF and Word document linked from the website.
