Boorley Green Community Art Project Unveiled
A unique community artwork celebrating the people, places and experiences that make our Parish special is now proudly displayed in the foyer of Boorley Green Community Centre.
The project formed part of Project Viewfinder, funded through Section 106 developer contributions, with funding approved by the HEWEB Local Area Committee. Designed to capture what residents love most about living in our Parish, the initiative has brought together people of all ages through a year of creativity, conversation and collaboration.
A Community-Inspired Vision
Following a selection process, local print artist Mark Howard Jones was chosen to lead the project. His brief was to create a permanent piece of community art that reflected the character, identity and values of our Parish through the voices and contributions of local residents.
The project was officially launched at Revels on the Rec 2025, where members of the community were invited to share their ideas and inspirations for the artwork.
Engaging the Community
Over the following months, Mark worked with a variety of local groups to ensure the artwork genuinely represented the community.
A series of creative workshops were held with children attending the HAF-funded Holiday Camp at Boorley Green Community Centre, members of Botley and Boorley Green Women’s Institute, and participants from the Home Education Community.
A Lasting Legacy for Our Parish
One year after the project began, the completed artwork was installed in the foyer of Boorley Green Community Centre in June 2026.
The artwork was officially unveiled by the Mayor of Eastleigh, Councillor Richard Gomer, on 7 June 2026 as part of the Boorley Green Community Event. The finished piece now serves as a lasting celebration of local pride, community spirit and the people who call our Parish home.
The project demonstrates the positive impact that community-led initiatives can have, creating opportunities for residents to come together and leave a lasting legacy for future generations to enjoy.
